Barbara Kelly

Barbara Martino Kelly (Arts & Letters '59) majored in English literature at Penn State and taught junior high school in California before starting her family.  She and her husband, George Kelly (Bus Ad '59), live in Palo Alto, California, where they raised their four children, and where Barbara helped establish a more-structured public school.  She earned her M. A. in English literature at San Jose State University in 1990, has been the book review editor of the Emily Dickinson International Society Bulletin since 1994, and is secretary of the Emily Dickinson International Society.  At Penn State, the Kellys endowed the Emily Dickinson Lectureship in American Poetry, the Kelly Professorship in Nineteenth-Century English and American Literature, the Kelly English Endowment for Library acquisitions, and the Kelly Graduate Fellowship in Nineteenth-Century English and American Literature.  Barbara says that "actively reconnecting with Penn State has been one of the most satisfying things we've done."
