Bill Oldsey, Chair
Bill Oldsey joined The McGraw-Hill Companies in April of 2003 as Executive Vice President of McGraw-Hill Education. In this role, Bill directs the School Education Group, the leading provider of pre-school through secondary education products, services, and solutions.
Bill has spent his entire professional career in the publishing arena, both in the U.S. and internationally. From 2001 to 2003, he was Group President for all of Pearson Education's publishing operations outside the United States. He also served as Group President of Pearson's elementary and supplemental publishing operations, which covered all grades and disciplines; President of Silver Burdett Ginn; and President of Prentice Hall's Higher Education Publishing Division. In addition, he was in charge of Mergers, Acquisitions and Strategic Planning for two years at Pearson, and also served as Group President for Business, Professional and Reference publishing. Before joining Pearson, he was Editorial Director for John Wiley and Sons' college publishing programs.
Bill began his career as a sales representative at Macmillan Publishing Company in the College Division, and held a series of management positions there in sales management, marketing and editorial over a ten year period.
Bill holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Penn State (1976). He is a State College native, as his father was a professor of American Literature at Penn State for almost 25 years. He and his wife Julie Alexander live in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. They have four sons, the oldest of whom just graduated from Penn State this past June. When not working in the New York City area, they are often enjoying the friendly, calm surroundings of Happy Valley from their getaway home in Boalsburg, Pennsylvania.
Bill and Julie have created the Dr. Bernard S. and Ann Re Oldsey Endowment for the Study of American Literature, which provides funds for research initiatives related to American Literature, and they just established the Oldsey/Alexander Family Endowed Football Scholarship which supports a Penn State football player majoring within the College of Liberal Arts.
