My name is Valerie Heruska and I currently work as a professional in student affairs. I graduated from Penn State with my BA in English in 2005. With a degree being as versatile as one from the English department, I felt that it truly opened doors for me to get into the field of student affairs.

My name is Valerie Heruska and I currently work as a professional in student affairs. I graduated from Penn State with my BA in English in 2005. With a degree being as versatile as one from the English department, I felt that it truly opened doors for me to get into the field of student affairs.

As I went through my graduate school program at another institution, I was able to apply a lot of skills that I learned in many of my English classes, particularly non-fiction writing,  and write a lot about observation of college students. Once I graduated with my Masters in Higher Education Administration, I took a job at my current institution working in Housing and Residence Life. In conjunction with my current position, I am afforded  the opportunity to teach a section of University 101, which I use a lot of what I learned in multiple English classes at Penn State.

Overall, my experience in the field of student affairs has been great and all the knowledge that I gained from my undergraduate experience at Penn State continues to help me reach my career goals.
