Nicole Cooley and Julia Kasdorf to read as part of the Mary E. Rolling Reading Series

Nicole Cooley grew up in New Orleans and is the author most recently of two collections of poems, Breach (LSU Press 2010) and Milk Dress (Alice James Books 2010). She has also published two other collections of poems and a novel. She has received the Walt Whitman Award from the Academy of American Poets, the Emily Dickinson Award from the Poetry Society of America, and a National Endowment for the Arts Grant. Her work has appeared in The Paris Review, Poetry, American Poet, and Callaloo, among other journals. She lives outside of New York City with her husband and two daughters.

 

Julia Spicher Kasdorf’s third book of poems, Poetry in America, appeared this year.   Among earlier collections, Eve’s Striptease was named one of Library Journal’s Top 20 Best Poetry Books of 1998, and Sleeping Preacher won the Agnes Lynch Starrett Poetry Prize and the Great Lakes College’s Association Award for New Writing.   Her poems have been awarded a 2009 NEA fellowship and a Pushcart Prize.  She co-edited the anthology, Broken Land:  Poems of Brooklyn, and serves as poetry editor for Christianity and Literature.  An Associate Professor of English and women’s studies at the Pennsylvania State University, she teaches in the MFA program in creative writing.
