Editors of the APA’s Philosophy and the Black Experience call her research on the status of African American students in American PhD Programs in the 1960-70s and Johnson’s fiction “groundbreaking,” “philosophically astute,” and “historically rich” (APA Newsletter 10:1 (Fall 2010) 1, 11-12.
