Professional Bio
I started teaching first-year composition courses in graduate school, and upon completion of my Master’s degree worked for several years at Virginia Tech, teaching courses in African American literature, children’s literature, first-year composition, and satire. I later taught American literature and first-year composition courses at Lock Haven University before beginning a new career at Penn State as an academic adviser, and ultimately, as the assistant director of advising in the College of the Liberal Arts. After taking time off to stay home with my newborn son in 2009, I returned to my first career and enduring interest— teaching English— and began instructing students in Business English at South Hills School of Business and Technology. Penn State hired me again in Fall 2017; I now teach ENGL 015 on campus and online. Since 2013, I have volunteered for Out of the Cold, a program that provides shelter for the homeless in State College, and I have recently begun training to assist in the rescue and rehabilitation of injured wildlife at Centre Wildlife Care.
