Professional Bio

I started teaching first-year composition courses in graduate school, and upon completion of my Master’s degree worked for several years at Virginia Tech, teaching courses in African American literature, children’s literature, first-year composition, and satire. I later taught American literature and first-year composition courses at Lock Haven University before beginning a new career at Penn State as an academic adviser, and ultimately, as the assistant director of advising in the College of the Liberal Arts. After taking time off to stay home with my newborn son in 2009, I returned to my first career and enduring interest— teaching English— and began instructing students in Business English at South Hills School of Business and Technology. Penn State hired me again in Fall 2017; this time to teach ENGL 015 online. In my spare time, I like to read (surprise!), garden, and do anything outside with my golden retriever, Sable. Golfing and fishing with my son and husband are favorite summer activities, and we spend a lot of time playing ice hockey in the winter.
