Professional Bio

I graduated from Penn State and Virginia Tech with degrees in English. I started teaching first-year composition courses in graduate school, and upon completion of my Master’s degree, I worked for several years at Virginia Tech, teaching courses in African American literature, children’s literature, first-year composition, and satire. I later taught American literature and first-year composition courses at Lock Haven University before beginning a new career at Penn State as an academic adviser, and ultimately, as the director of advising in the College of the Liberal Arts. After taking time off to stay home with my newborn son in 2009, I returned to my first career and enduring interest— teaching English— and began instructing students in Business English at South Hills School of Business and Technology. In Fall 2017, I found myself at Penn State once again; this time teaching ENGL 015 online. I am happily teaching it in Spring 2018 as well.
In my spare time, I like to read (surprise!), garden and do anything outside with my golden retriever, Sable. In the warmer months, I golf and fish with my son and husband, and we spend a lot of time playing ice hockey and sledding in the winter.
