Professional Bio

I graduated from Penn State with a BA in English and from Virginia Tech with an MA in English Literature. I started teaching first-year composition courses at Virginia Tech in 1991. Upon completion of my Master’s degree in 1993, I continued my work at Virginia Tech, teaching African American Literature, English Composition, and Literature for Children. I later taught English Literature and writing courses at Lock Haven University before beginning a new career at Penn State as an academic adviser in the College of the Liberal Arts in 2000; as a senior adviser in the Division of Undergraduate Studies in 2004; and as the Director of Advising, Liberal Arts Undergraduate Studies from 2006-2009. After taking time off to stay home with my newborn son, I returned to my first career and enduring interest— teaching English— and began instructing students in Business English at South Hills School of Business and Technology in 2014. I began teaching ENGL 015 through Penn State's World Campus in August of 2017. In my spare time, I like to garden, golf, and fish with my son and husband, and do anything outside with my Golden Retriever, Sable.
