Professional Bio

I successfully defended my dissertation, titled The Literature of the Civil War: Sentimental Proto-Care Ethics and Contemporary Critique in August 2023. I am interested in what I have termed a “proto-ethics of care,” which is a genealogy that my project traces backwards to sentimental literature before the scholarship of Carol Gilligan and Nel Noddings. The shortcomings and omissions of our current discourse of care ethics should be understood as a continuation of the absences and erasures present in nineteenth-century proto-care ethics, specifically the erasure of black lives and perspectives from ongoing care projects.

As an instructor I have taught British Literature (ENGL 222), Technical Writing (ENGL 202C), Rhetoric and Composition (ENGL 15), and Religious Studies (AMST 140Y). I am also a certified World Campus instructor.

I have worked as a research assistant for The Henry James Letters Project for several years, and I gained valuable skills in transcription, annotation, archival research, editing, and manuscript publishing.
