Professional Bio

Emily Smith is a third-year PhD candidate in rhetoric and composition.  She is a graduate assistant to the Program of Writing and Rhetoric. Her academic interests include rhetorics of historiography and public memory, feminist rhetorics, and performance studies.  Her dissertation, "Performing Histories: Archival Embodiment as a Mode of Rhetorical Historiography," theorizes performance as not just a medium to present historical information but, in fact, a method of enacting historiographical narratives.
