Professional Bio

John J. Jasso is an Assistant Professor of English at the Pennsylvania State University. His research focuses on the confluence of rhetoric, philosophy, and theology from antiquity to the middle ages, with an eye towards contemporary application. He is especially interested in exploring the Platonic view of rhetoric as a type of “soul-leading” and tracing the evolution of this view throughout the Catholic intellectual tradition. He is also involved in constructing “neo” Platonic/medieval theories of rhetorical production and criticism for the purpose of contemporary cultural engagement and critique.
