I teach rhetoric and composition and a variety of literature courses. My primary research field is modern and contemporary American poetry. My doctoral research looked at early and mid-twentieth century American poets whose engagement with shifting Protestant discourses of American identity gives the lie to the secularization narratives embedded in literary histories of the genre in those periods. More recently I have been interested in new ways of describing the intellectual and aesthetic conversation between contemporary American poets and their modernist predecessors. In spring 2017 I am teaching ENGL 15 and ENGL 201 (What is Literature?).
