Professional Bio

Lisa Mangini holds an MFA in creative writing from Southern Connecticut State University, focusing particularly on the intersection of poetry and prose in cross-genre forms. She has five collections of creative work, most recently a poetry chapbook, Ambivalent Nymph, which explores wedding culture through historic etymology alongside modern love poems. She is the Founding Editor of Paper Nautilus, an annual print literary journal and small press launched in 2011. She has also served various editing roles for Persona, Noctua Review, and Freshwater, the last of which she served as Faculty Advisor for the 2014-15 academic year at Asnuntuck Community College. Lisa has held additional positions at University of Hartford, Southern Connecticut State University, and Holyoke Community College -- and, prior to shifting towards higher education, had a successful corporate career doing editing and plan administration for a major health insurance company. Lisa's experience at Penn State has included teaching English 15 and 202B, as well as creative writing courses and serving as a 1:1 tutor at the Writing Center. Lisa and her husband live in State College, but you can sometimes find them exploring and enjoying the many scenic state parks throughout central Pennsylvania.
