Professional Bio

Tina Chen is Associate Professor of English and Asian American Studies and author of Double Agency: Acts of Impersonation in Asian American Literature and Culture, which was named a CHOICE Outstanding Academic Title in 2005.  She has had a number of national leadership roles, which include stints as the co-Chair of the East of California caucus for the Association for Asian American Studies, serving on the Executive Boards of the MLA's Division on Asian American Literature (from 2005-2010) and GS Speculative Fiction forum (2019-2022), and being Founding Editor of Verge: Studies in Global Asias, winner of the 2016 BEST NEW JOURNAL Award from the Council of Editors of Learned Journals (CELJ) and the 2020 PROSE Award for Best New Journal in the Humanities from the Association of American Publishers (AAP).

I usually teach my graduate seminars in the fall semester although in 2019-2020, I will be teaching grad seminars both semesters. Over the next three years, I plan to offer courses on methods and materials (ENG 501; Fall 2019), speculative fiction (ENG 577; Spring 2020), and contemporary Ethnic American literature (ENG 597; Fall 2020). These classes are subject to approval by the GSC but I provide this information for graduate student planning purposes.
