Teaching Statement:
My cultural approach to teaching leads just as often to a close reading of a poem as it does to the analysis of the italic hand or to a theoretical discussion of gender and media; I have found that using material culture as a starting point is an extremely effective way to help students navigate the complexities of literary interpretation.
