M.F.A Program

This page has moved to < >.

Penn State offers an array of graduate and undergraduate options for our creative writers, including an integrated degree plan combining undergraduate and graduate study offered through the Schreyer Honors College to an undergraduate creative writing emphasis. For undergraduates, we offer workshop-style courses in fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry at both the upper and lower division levels.

Creative writers at Penn State enjoy specialized attention from our core creative writing faculty, and graduate and undergraduate courses that offer peer review as well as close reading, study of contemporary literature, and the close examination of craft in all three genres. We also offer an M.F.A to select candidates, including some admitted through the graduate Ph.D. program in literature. Due to funding restrictions, we are not currently accepting applications for a standalone M.F.A.

We are, however, developing a proposed integrated undergraduate/graduate degree plan offered through the English department and available to Penn State students pursuing an M.A. degree in English with a concentration in creative writing.

Please contact the Director of Creative Writing, Elizabeth Kadetsky, for more information, at And, check the links here under graduate and undergraduate programs as well as graduate creative writing.
