Scheduling a Full Literature Course FAQ

Can my instructor permit me to override into a class?

No. Only a staff member from the English Department can enroll you in a class that is full.

What if I am a graduating senior and I have been unable to get into a class I need to graduate?

The English Department will override you into a section, but you must be an English major and you must do the following:

  • Have an official letter from your Department Advisor on letterhead stating you are filing your intent to graduate and that you need the course to graduate.
  • File your intent to graduate.
  • Submit the letter from your Advisor to Stephanie Cramer, either in person in 434 Burrowes or by email (sfc10@psu.edu).
  • Continue to try to enroll in the class. Add your name to the wait list of the course and/or keep checking the schedule of courses for openings. (Note that the wait list updates hourly, so you may not see your name immediately. Rest assured it will appear.)
  • If you have followed all of the above steps and are still unable to enroll in a section, midway through the Add/Drop period Steph Cramer will assign you to the class.
  • The department can only override seniors into a class during the Add/Drop week. After the first week of classes, graduating seniors will have to pursue other options.
  • Finally, the department can override you into a section only once. If, for whatever reason, you drop the class, it will not help you again.

What if I am not a graduating senior, but I will be studying abroad my senior year—or have other commitments—and need to take the course now?

The English Department will override you into a class, but you must be an English major and you must do the following:

  • Submit the letter from your Advisor to Stephanie Cramer, either in person in 434 Burrowes or by email (sfc10@psu.edu).
  • Continue to try to enroll in the class. Add your name to the wait list and/or keep checking the schedule of courses for openings. (Note that the wait list updates hourly, so you may not see your name immediately. Rest assured it will appear.)
  • If you have followed all of the above steps and are still unable to enroll in the course, midway through the Add/Drop period Steph Cramer will assign you to the course.
  • The department can only override students into a course during the Add/Drop week. After the first week of classes, students will have to pursue other options.
  • Finally, the department can override you into a section only once. If, for whatever reason, you drop the class, it will not help you again.

What if I am not a graduating senior?

  • Add your name to the wait list of the course and/or keep checking the schedule of courses for openings.
  • Note that the wait list updates hourly, so you may not see your name immediately. Rest assured it will appear.
