Professor Michael Anesko requires a research assistant to work with him on The Complete Letters of Henry James, an on-going series published by the University of Nebraska Press (14 volumes to date, with many more anticipated).
This project entails collaborative work with other editors who are based at the Center for Henry James Studies at Creighton University (Omaha, NE). Our job here at Penn State is to work toward establishing reliable transcriptions of James’s manuscript letters, and to offer suggestions for the scholarly annotation of these documents.
In the past, this commitment has involved roughly 5-6 hours of collaborative work per week in the project office through the course of the academic year; in exchange, the RA will receive one course-release from teaching for the year.
This research assistant will gain first-hand experience in the theory and practice of textual editing, will have an opportunity to see an edition-in-progress become a published volume (working through the manuscript stage through copy-edited proofs and on to final publication), will experience a genuine immersion into Anglo-American culture of the late 19th century, and, not least, receive full publication credit (in print) for the work performed.
