Phillip Zapkin has had a run of publications.
- He published a review of Engagements with Adaptation, by Thomas Leitch in Modern Language Studies, vol. 55, no. 2, Winter 2026, pp. 76-79. The book is an overview of contemporary approaches taken by adaptation studies scholars, looking at various critical methodologies in an accessible and easy to follow way. He also have a YouTube review of it available here: https://youtu.be/wpYg_Dd-yjk.
- He presented “British/Irish: Liminal Identity, Richard III, and NI as Borderland in David Ireland’s Not Now” at the 2026 NeMLA conference, arguing that Ireland’s play utilizes a performance of Shakespeare’s Richard IIIto negotiate the tensions between Britishness and Irishness for Northern Irish unionist communities. A video of the presentation is available here: https://youtu.be/OW4RbCp-WUw.
- Finally, he presented “Clytemnestra’s Diary: Adapting Clytemnestra in Terry Deary’s Groovy Greeks” at NeMLA, arguing that Deary’s adaptation of Clytemnestra’s story from Aeschylus’ Agamemnonopens more sympathetic reading strategies by foregrounding Clytemnestra’s interiority for an audience of young readers unlikely to have been influenced by Aeschylus’ negative depiction of her.
