Professional Bio
Abigail Cowan is a graduate student in the Department of English and a WGSS dual-title student, as well as a teaching assistant in English and Comparative Literature. She has taught Race, Gender, and Identity; Women Writers of London; Human Rights and World Literature; Writing for the Humanities; and courses in rhetoric and technical communication. Her pedagogy is grounded in inclusive and collaborative practices that encourage students to articulate their learning needs and engage critically with texts and theory. Abigail earned her bachelor’s degrees in English Literature and Creative Writing from Western Michigan University. Her research examines contemporary speculative fiction through theories of embodiment, kinship, and performativity, with particular attention to political theories of gender and race. Outside of her academic work, she maintains active interests in creative writing and music.
