Toby Thompson is the author of five books of nonfiction, including Positively Main Street, his 1971 biography of Bob Dylan, regarded by Dylan aficionados as a classic. In 2012 he published Riding the Rough String: Reflections on the American West, which is a collection of his Western profiles and essays, spanning some thirty years. In October of 2013 he published Metroliner— Passages: New York to Washington, which is a collection of his Eastern pieces, again spanning a thirty-year period. He has published in magazines as diverse as Vanity Fair, Esquire,GQ, Rolling Stone, Playboy, Outside, Men’s Journal, Gray’s Sporting Journal, The Washington Post and The New York Times. He is an associate professor of English at Penn State,where he teaches creative nonfiction.
