W. Simone Di Piero to give 2012 Emily Dickinson Lecture

W. S. Di Piero is the author of ten books of poetry including his most recent collection, Nitro Nights (Copper Canyon, 2011). His poems have appeared frequently in Poetry, The New Yorker, and Threepenny Review, and he has written for The New York Times Magazine, The New York Times Book Review, The New Republic, and other periodicals. He is a noted essayist on art, literature, and culture, and has translated works from Greek and Italian. The latest of his five essay collections, When Can I See You Again? (Pressed Wafer, 2010), contains his recent writings on art, and his autobiographical essays have appeared twice in Best American Essays. Di Piero has been the recipient of the 2012 Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize, a Guggenheim Fellowship, a National Endowment for the Arts grant, and a Lila Wallace Readers Digest Award. He is professor emeritus of English at Stanford and lives in San Francisco.
