Phillip Zapkin published a new article, “Antipodean Theseus: The Narrative Influence of Classical Myth on the Historiography of William Larnach,” in Histories, vol 6, no. 1, 9 Feb. 2026.

The essay looks at six different narrativizations of William Larnach’s 1891 suicide in New Zealand, and the incestuous scandal that may have prompted that suicide, to assess how shifting story-telling structures bring the histories closer to the narrative structure of the Greco-Roman Hippolytus myth as time goes on.
