The Hemingway Letters Project was well represented at the 21st Biennial Hemingway conference, held in Toronto July 20-25.

There were three panels dedicated to the Letters: one on the current volume, Volume 7 (including presentations by Sandra Spanier and Verna Kale); one on the final volumes of 1957-1961, moderated by Sandra Spanier; and one on emerging research, with papers by students from other institutions, moderated by Verna Kale. Graduate students (and current and former Letters Project research assistants) Katie Painter and Yafang Luo, as well as recent postdoctoral appointee Daniela Farkas, presented original research on panels not affiliated with the Letters Project. Katie Painter was awarded a Hinkle grant and Yafang Luo was awarded a Stoneback award, competitive awards given by the Hemingway Society’s travel grants committee to support work by emerging scholars. Fulbright scholars Hiroto Morikane (2025-2026) and Laëtitia Nebot-Deneuville (incoming 2026-2027) also presented papers and were recognized with awards. As President of the Hemingway Society, Verna Kale presided over various conference events that included guests from The Toronto Star and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung as well as at a centenary celebration of The Sun Also Rises.
