The Public Writing Initiative (a project of the writing center) just got news that one of its writers has been published in Town and Gown Magazine’s Fall Penn State issue!

Heather Cardinuto (Political Science and Philosophy) spent spring 2026 working with IUG Creative Writing student Julia Frederick to develop her narrative essay “Stop Letting Instagram Pick Your Roommate.” Julia used her training as a “writing tutor with a publishing emphasis” to coach Heather through the writing, revision, and freelance publication process. Heather is the fourth student to be published through the Public Writing Initiative’s Undergraduate Publishing Project.
